Getting started...setting up a website

There was mounting pressure on me to add a second post to my blog before I celebrate my first post anniversary. After having written the first post with familiar but renewed enthusiasm, that kept me awake till 1 PM, I didn't expect it to fizzle in a way it did. But knowing me, I knew that there was significant chance that it would happen. I had been contemplating of starting a venture ever since my IIT Bombay days. And I had vowed to myself that I would keep adding something to the blog every week to keep the tempo going.

Though I had been upto some readings (few blogs) and acts related to start ups but never really got the time to write it here. So as I see it, there is a good amount of content to share with you folks (someone please start following this blog :-)) in the coming days on starting a website, learnings from other startup notables, etc.

I finally went ahead and set up a website at godaddy.com They charge $10/yr for domain names and $4/month for the hosting account. It includes 10GB of space, 10 MySQL DBs, 300 GB bandwidth allotment. There are other plans if you have different requirements. You can also try NameCheap, who offer slightly cheaper deals (which I came to know later). Web hosting providers like godaddy, namecheap etc. provide ftp access for uploading content and generally have much support for web languages like PHP, Ruby and Java.
